About BUW
The Centre for Health Economics and Health Services Research (BKG – Bergisches Kompetenzzentrum für Gesundheitsökonomik und Versorgungsforschung) is driven by the conviction that health is a central value for each individual, for companies, and for society. Health enables people to perform, to create value, to succeed, and to thrive. Researching, teaching and applying what makes us healthy is therefore a central challenge for the future. In its projects and studies, the BKG focuses on human health in a variety of ways.
The Schumpeter School of Business and Economics is directly linked to Schumpeter’s scientific work, embracing its interdisciplinary scope and adapting it to contemporary developments. This approach cultivates a modern Schumpeterian perspective in research, teaching, and practice. While maintaining a strong focus on core questions of economic development theory, such as various forms of innovation, market evolution, and structural changes, it also extends its reach to areas like finance, law, human capital theory, health economics, and education economics. These fields are explored through the lens of economic dynamics, recognising their complexity and interconnectedness.
We will be responsible for assessing the health economic impact of social prescribing for people in vulnerable situations, organisations, and health and social care systems. By analysing a variety of costs and outcomes, we will evaluate the economic value and sustainability of social prescribing. In addition, we are supporting the qualitative study to explore the enabling and limiting factors for the implementation of social prescribing as a scalable and transferable solution to improve access to health and care services in different European countries.
