About SB

Schwulenberatung Berlin is a leading organisation dedicated to providing psychosocial support, health services, and counselling for LGBTIQ+ individuals in Berlin. Founded in 1981, it initially focused on the needs of gay men and lesbians, later expanding to include trans and intersex people. Our core philosophy is rooted in humanistic principles, emphasising self-determination, empowerment, and holistic well-being. We strive to create a space where individuals can access support without their sexual or gender identity being the sole focus, while still acknowledging the unique challenges faced by LGBTIQ+ communities.

Within our organisation, we offer a range of services, including mental health support, addiction counselling, HIV prevention, housing projects, and social services. Our work is guided by principles of self-help, acceptance of diverse lifestyles, and solidarity with marginalised groups. One key area of our expertise is healthcare, where we address the specific needs of LGBTIQ+ individuals, recognising the gaps in mainstream medical and psychological services.

As part of SP-EU, our organisation plays a crucial role in advocating for LGBTIQ+ health rights, sharing expertise on inclusive counselling approaches, and contributing to research on health disparities within the community. We collaborate with European partners to develop innovative strategies for HIV prevention, mental health care, and social inclusion. Through our engagement, we aim to foster a more inclusive and equitable healthcare landscape in Berlin.
